Preparing your home for the summer heat!

We are on the brink of summer and I thought I’d share a few tips to help make your home energy-efficient and ready for the summer. These simple things can not only help you save energy, but they can also help you reduce some of your utility bills. Check it out!

1. Make sure your AC has space! Keep the AC and thermostats clear of any appliances that may emit heat. The heat may make your AC run stronger and longer which means that you may be wasting money in cooling your home.

2. Clean your dryer vents! A clogged dryer vent may cause the hot air to blow back into your utility room which may raise the internal temperature of your home.

3. Close your blinds or curtains! Keeping blinds/curtains closed (especially during peak times of heat) may help block heat from entering your home and may reduce the amount of energy you need to use to cool your home.

4. Use flourescent bulbs! Flourescent bulbs emit significantly less heat than regular incandescent bulbs which means your house may be cooler with these bulbs. They also last 10 times longer than regular light bulbs.
